Apr 29-May 05: Experimental Mondays, Design Market, Live Performance, and more!
Restaurant review & Things to do in Berlin - Week of April 29, 2024!
I have a friend who is a cake artist. I’ve tried her cakes (only once!), and I’m still not sure why she doesn’t open her pastry shop in Berlin! Louise Lindberg is a Danish Berlin-based Cake Artist who shares her passion for baking with her community on Instagram, YouTube, and her recipe website.
Exploring the sweeter side of Berlin, she shares local cake hangout spots and shows what life is like for a Pastry Chef Business Owner. With over 10 years of baking experience and having worked with companies such as KitchenAid and Callebaut, she offers online Chocolate Decoration Courses, private in-person baking lessons in Prenzlauer Berg, and provides Pastry Catering for special events.
If you're looking for something special for a special occasion, she's your go-to person.

1. EXPERIMONTAG - Madame Claude
Madame Claude, formerly a brothel, with furniture hanging upside down from its ceiling, stands out as one of those unique neighborhood bars in Berlin. Every Monday, they feature an experimental act. This week, Marie Takahashi (modern & baroque violist, improviser, composer) & Cedrik Fermont (noise, electronic, experimental musician) will join forces with DJ Fake Ophelia, bringing together diverse backgrounds for an unusual collaboration on stage. 2. Else X Mind Against - Party
If you’re looking for a great party before the 1st of May holiday, Else is an excellent option. They got a brand-new, high-end sound system: Lambda Labs QX3, and a new DJ booth, surrounded by the crowd from all sides. Also, they offer oven-baked pizza, and the DJ lineup for this party is stellar!! More info.
3. Bélaplume Design Market
This design market is held at one of our favorite breweries in Berlin, Vagabund Brauerei Kesselhaus. There will be 20 local artists showcasing various types of art, including screen printing, photography, fashion, illustration, jewelry, ceramics, and more! The brewery is opening its beer garden the same weekend, and they will have a new food vendor serving Louisiana-style chicken on-site. More info.
⭐ and I are hosting our next big party at this location on the 1st of June. Stay tuned for more details in next week’s newsletter!

4. SANCTUM OF SOUND - Live Performance
I’ve promoted these series in the past, but it’s one of those events that is worth repeating. Mahalla will be transformed into a sacred space dedicated to the creation and transmission of music and sound. In their own words, they invite you to "shut up and listen. By listening, you become quiet. In this inner quietness, you may rest and find some peace.” More info.
5. Live Music Sundays - Catalina Ciortea
Live Music Sundays is a local initiative where the house band, featuring Eurico Matias on cello and Pedro Cascavel on drums, collaborates with a new local artist from any style every month. Together, they take on the challenge of this trio to share the stage. For this edition, Catalina Ciortea will share the stage with them. More info.

Restaurant Review:
Teller Berlin - Casual Fine Dining (⭐5/5)
The restaurant is located in Prenzlauer Berg, where Mrs. Robinson’s (now closed) used to be. It's relatively small, with a maximum capacity of 20 people and some high chairs at the bar. The restaurant offers a set menu for two at €64 per person, inclusive of drinks, as well as à la carte options. The menu rotates, and some items we tried are not listed on the online menu. The staff is friendly and attentive, and you can enjoy unlimited still/sparkling water for €2.5 per person, unlike other places that charge €8 for a bottle! What we tried:
Beef Croquettes, Nduja Mayo, Picked Mustered Seed (€6) -⭐ 5/5
Filo-a-Fish, Pistachio, Fermented Honey, Mascarpone (€6) -⭐ 5/5
Feta & Chili Crème Brûlée, Grilled bread (€10) - ⭐ 5/5
Lima Beans, Preserved Lemon & Chili, Cabbage reduction (€15) - ⭐ 3/5
Dry Aged Crudo, Early Spring Greens (€18) - ⭐ 4/5
Gnocchi, Wild Garlic, Whey & Buckwheat (€16) - ⭐ 3.5/5
Beef Back Ribs, Wild Mushroom, Red Wine Sauce (€19) - ⭐ 4.5/5
Teller’s Pommes, Apple Ketchup (€7) - ⭐ 5/5
Labneh & Olive Oil (€8) - ⭐ 5/5
