April 01-07: Exhibition, Fusion Jazz, Classical Music at Kitkat, and more!
Things to do in Berlin - Week of April 01, 2024!
Someone contacted me to promote a book in the newsletter. I found the concept truly noble! "Displaced Dishes” is a beautifully designed and compact cookbook featuring 34 delicious recipes from around the world. All these recipes were generously donated by residents of the Samos Refugee Camp, along with their personal memories and tips. The book offers a glimpse into a displaced community through their most cherished dishes.
This is a great gift idea! And when you buy this book, you're not just getting 34 recipes; you're also contributing to a good cause. All proceeds from the book will be donated to Samos Volunteers.
Here's a sneak peek of what’s in store for you this week:

1. Echoes of the Brother Countries - Exhibition
Between 1949 and 1990, numerous individuals migrated to the GDR from countries like Algeria, Angola, Chile, Cuba, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Syria, and Vietnam. However, their narratives remain relatively obscure. The exhibition and research project "Echoes of the Brother Countries" shed light on the often disregarded political, economic, educational, and artistic connections, as well as the exchange and migration movements between the GDR and other socialist-oriented states, commonly referred to as the brother countries. This is a band that combines Cuban salsa and European jazz. Exploring the roots of salsa, son, and rumba, Sergio, a prominent figure in Cuba's music scene, leads his friends on a journey through the Caribbean island's music world. 4. SANCTUM OF SOUND - Live Performance
One of my favorite venues in Berlin is hosting a live music session. Sanctum of Sound will transform MaHalla for 12 hours, into a sacred space dedicated to the creation and transmission of music and sound. In their own words, they invite you to "shut up and listen. By listening, you become quiet. In this inner quietness, you may rest and find some peace.” More info.

5. Classical Sundays - Salon Rouge - Kitkat Club
I’m sure you're familiar with the club Kitkat! I've discovered a group that hosts real-time classical music performances with no rehearsals. There's no dress code, although you're welcome to wear your sexy outfit, and as they like to say, “no time for anyone’s bullshit”. More info.

Restaurant Review:
Tossakan Berlin - Thai Restaurant (⭐4.5/5)
The restaurant offers authentic Thai food with a manageable level of spiciness. The owner, who also serves as the chef, is friendly. However, the service can be slow at times. During my last visit, I noticed they had raised their prices and reduced portion sizes, perhaps due to the neighborhood's rental prices.
