Feb 10-16: Berlinale, Concert, Valentine's Run, and more!
Things to do in Berlin - Week of February 10!
Are you truly free in your daily life? Take a moment to think about it. In your work, your personal commitments. Do you really have freedom? One of the most attractive things about having an independent newsletter is the freedom it brings! This kind of freedom is often rare in daily life. At work, I have a manager to answer to. In my personal life, I have various commitments. But with the newsletter, I have complete freedom to choose what to write and which events to feature. The act of exercising this freedom makes it worthwhile. To embrace it even more, for this week’s edition, I’m adding two events to the ‘submitted events’ section instead of our usual one!
Here's a sneak peek of what’s in store for you this week:
📽️ Berlinale - International Film Festival
🎻 Biennale of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
🎵 Aida Shirazi – Concert and Film Screening
💘 Berlin Valentine's Run
💃 ISLAND UNIVERSE (Daytime Party!)
♻️ Zero Waste Workshop
✅ Have something awesome to share? If you’ve got an event, product, or project you'd like to promote, get in touch! We’d love to help you 📢 get the word out!
1. Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival
The Berlinale, one of the world's most significant film festivals, brings together industry professionals, critics, and film enthusiasts from over 120 countries. With up to 400 films screened across various sections and genres, it draws the largest audience of any film festival, selling around 300,000 tickets annually. The tickets will be released for sale three days before the respective screening. Full program.

2. Biennale of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
The 2025 Berlin Philharmonic Biennale, themed "Paradise Lost? – On the Threat to Nature," explores the impact of climate change and species extinction. Through a selection of compositions, the festival highlights both the beauty of nature and the consequences of environmental destruction. With a focus on extreme weather events such as heatwaves, droughts, and floods, the Biennale uses music to draw attention to urgent ecological challenges. Program & tickets.

3. Aida Shirazi – Composer / Performer Concert and Experimental Film Screening
This program is part of Cluster, a new-music series in Berlin that explores sound and notation while fostering collaboration between musicians and composers. The event features Aida Shirazi, who combines solo voice, sanṭūr, and electronics, along with a film screening curated by Valentina Besegher. Shirazi structures her compositions around timbre, drawing influence from Iranian and British literature. Poetry plays a key role in her work, blending spoken word with acoustic and electronic elements. More info.

4. Berlin Valentine's Run
The Valentine's Run in the Gardens of the World is a recent addition to Berlin's running calendar, with the 2025 event marking its fifth edition. Designed as a team run, it welcomes best friends, couples, and parent-child duos to complete the course together. You can choose between 3-, 5-, or 10-kilometer routes, all set on flat asphalt paths through the park. To warm up after the run, mulled wine will be available at the finish line, making for a fitting end to a winter race. Registration.

5. ISLAND UNIVERSE (Daytime Party!)
As someone who parties occasionally, this idea really resonated with me! ISLAND UNIVERSE offers a fresh approach to the Sunday daytime dance party, delivering all the energy of a night out without the next-day crash. Designed as a slower, more groove-focused alternative to high-intensity club scenes, it emphasizes connection, inclusivity, and deep musical exploration. More info.

6. Zero Waste Workshop
Germany generates a significant amount of plastic waste, and separating it doesn’t always mean it gets recycled. Over time, plastic in the environment breaks down into microplastics, which can make their way back to humans—potentially up to 5 grams per week. This five-part workshop series offers practical steps to cut down on plastic use, improve personal well-being, and reduce costs. More info.

Restaurant Suggestion:
Vinpearl - Asian Restaurant (⭐4/5)
A great spot for sushi and other dishes, including some creative options like vegetarian tartare and bao bao. The sushi was well-prepared, and the prices were reasonable. The restaurant itself is an older establishment, but it has been renovated with a refreshed menu.
