4. Exploring the Colorful World of William Eggleston: Mystery of the Ordinary
Discover the exceptional work of William Eggleston, one of the pioneers of elevating color photography to fine art. Born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1939, Eggleston is renowned for his ability to capture the everyday world in a way that constantly challenges our perceptions. With the exhibition "Mystery of the Ordinary", C/O Berlin presents some of Eggleston's famous series such as "Los Alamos" as well as never-before-seen works, including "The Outlands" series and photographs taken in Berlin between 1981 and 1988. 5. Annual Neukölln Art Prize Showcases Diverse Talents of Local Artists
With a thriving arts scene and numerous studios and spaces, Neukölln has become a hub for artists. The Department of Culture, the Cultural Network Neukölln, and housing association STADT UND LAND have come together to honor this with the Neukölln Art Prize. This year, over 180 artists residing or working in Neukölln submitted their works for the prize, with seven nominees selected by a jury of five experts. The prize includes a total of 6,000 euros in awards. The Galerie im Saalbau will host a group exhibition featuring the works of the nominees, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the diverse and multi-layered creations of Neukölln's talented artists. 6. Monica Bonvicini's 'I do You' Exhibition: An Exploration of Feminism and Modernism
Italian artist Monica Bonvicini is a well-known figure in the Berlin art scene. Her latest exhibition, "I do You," showcases some of her most significant works and new productions that explore her interest in feminism and architecture. By reinterpreting famous works by male architects, designers, and artists, Bonvicini exposes the subliminal structures of male chauvinism in modernism. The exhibition focuses particularly on Mies van der Rohe's museum building as an icon of modernism. Through her minimalist works, Bonvicini presents alternative perspectives on modernism and opens up a discourse on institutional critique. Read more!
