Nov 03-09: Forest Winterlights, Audiovisual Installation, Berlin Freedom Week, and more!
A Small Favor & Things to do in Berlin - Week of Nov 03!
Dear Subscribers,
I would like to ask for a favor. Every week, I spend a few hours finding events that I actually think are worth going to, and I would go to them myself. Unlike other newsletters or Instagram guides that mindlessly add events to fill up space (and many copy events from this newsletter 😉), I care about the time and money you spend when going out. Sometimes not all the events are great or to your taste, but I try my best.
If this is something you value and this newsletter has helped you in finding cool things to do in the city, I appreciate it if you share it with others who would also enjoy it. Share it with a friend, a date, a group you are in, or an enemy if you hate it (not sure why you are still here if you do 😁). Even sharing with one person helps. Thanks for your support ❤️.

Bazaar Berlin returns for its 63rd edition, bringing together around 500 exhibitors from more than sixty countries who present crafts, design pieces, and natural products. You can explore arts and crafts, clothing and home textiles, jewelry and costume jewelry, food and delicacies, natural goods and cosmetics, contemporary art and design, as well as seasonal decorations, with makers and traders available throughout the halls. 2. FOREST WINTERLIGHTS 2025 - Dark Matter
DARK MATTER opens the winter season with FOREST WINTERLIGHTS, a large-scale light installation that spans about one thousand square meters and features more than 600 trees, many suspended from the ceiling, and over 250,000 lights. The space functions as a staged environment where light and sound form the narrative, including a central motif of the upside down fir tree that references historical traditions in parts of Europe. A four hundred square meter ice rink threads through the installation, with skate rentals available on site. More info.

3. Almost Legal Alien • Standup Comedy Solo
Mustafa Algiyadi, a standup comedian based in Munich, brings his critically acclaimed solo hour to Berlin as he navigates the cultural clashes between his Arab roots and European life. The show dissects topics of identity and the search for a better passport, all delivered with a semi-intellectual flair that adds to the severe imposter syndrome he has. More info.

4. The Breath Between - Audiovisual Installation
The Breath Between is a new audiovisual installation by the artist duo Philip and Daphne, presented in collaboration with MONOM and 4DSOUND. The piece combines spatial sound, projection mapping, and holographic imagery, built from live piano recordings. The piano recordings are processed into a shifting sound environment that surrounds visitors, while the visual component grows into Moving Sculpture, where light and form appear to hover in space rather than sit on a surface. The result is a shared field in which sound and image respond to one another, creating a continuous experience rather than separate layers. More info.

Across two evenings, you can browse independent labels and vintage pieces, watch performances, listen to music, and meet makers and fellow guests while bars operate throughout the venue. The program is designed as a social market where shopping, conversation, and nightlife overlap, welcoming an audience that values style and culture without strict boundaries between them. More info.

6. Berlin Freedom Week
Berlin Freedom Week is a new citywide program held each year around the fall of the Berlin Wall anniversary, with the first edition in 2025. Guided tours, workshops, films, readings, discussions, children’s activities, and exchange formats examine freedom from multiple angles, including current events in different countries, global protest movements, digital rights, and historical perspectives. A central event is the Berlin Freedom Conference at the Gasometer on November 10, where activists, politicians, scholars, and cultural practitioners contribute viewpoints and debate key questions. 7. Nākaloka - Immersive Concert
Nākaloka brings candlelight, world flutes, song, and spoken teachings into a focused program of storytelling and recitation. Participants move through shared reflection as sound and text draw from multiple traditions to examine ideas that sit beyond doctrine. As a nonprofit, Nākaloka produces free public activations that encourage personal change, generosity, and local connection. This edition aligns with the Tee- und Wärmestube Neukölln initiative, and all ticket proceeds support Diakoniewerk Simeon’s work with neighbors facing housing insecurity in Neukölln. More info.

Restaurant Suggestion:
YamYam Berlin - Korean Restaurant (⭐4/5)
This Korean spot in central Mitte stays busy even midweek, but small groups can usually walk in. Service is friendly and quick. The menu has plenty of small plates and appetizers, plus a lunch special. They do not do tabletop barbecue, so you leave without that smoke smell in your clothes. We had the beef bibimbap. Flavor was good, although the meat came in clumps, which made it feel a bit rushed. The spicy beef and glass noodle soup tasted mild to me, but the beef was tender and not chewy. There were not many pieces, though the quality felt solid. Everyone gets complimentary kimchi. They take cards, are fine splitting the bill, and you are looking at about €20 per person with a soft drink. Easy pick when you want straightforward Korean food in a central spot.
