Nov 10-16: Christmas Market, Film Festival, Theater Performance, and more!
Things to do in Berlin - Week of Nov 10!
I recently watched Stalker. It is a 1979 Soviet film by Andrei Tarkovsky. A guide known as the Stalker leads a writer and a professor into the forbidden Zone, toward a Room said to grant a person’s deepest desire. The film is slow and meditative, built from long takes and careful sound. Its symbols invite many readings: faith versus reason, hope versus disillusionment, the cost of desire, and the pull between the material and the spiritual.
Watching it made me realize how modern cinema has trained us to expect constant motion, quick cuts, and crowded plots. It left me wondering whether social media has narrowed our attention in the same way. Have we lost the ability to sit with something slow, to stay present without stimulation, and to let meaning unfold at its own pace?

6. Ophelia’s Got Talent
This astonishing performance traces how water-based myths, from Ophelia to mermaids and sirens, shape ideas about femininity, the body, and transformation in the present day. It looks at water as a space where desire, power, decay, and renewal coexist, and where figures from legend reappear in modern form. The performance connects these stories to current fears around climate change and uncertainty, asking how bodies adapt to shifting conditions and what new ways of living might emerge. Surtitles DE/EN. More info.

Restaurant Suggestion:
Hanuman Thai Curry House (⭐4/5)
I finally got a chance to try this place after hearing so much about it. This is a Thai spot by the chef who also runs Tossakan. I met him once and he was welcoming and kind. The setup is self service, so you order at the counter and pick up your food. The menu focuses on Thai curries with meat and vegetarian options. We had the chicken curry, the beef curry, and a cucumber salad. The chicken curry was medium spicy with Thai vegetables and a solid amount of chicken. Note that the pieces come from different cuts and include skin, which is true to how it is often cooked in Asia. If you only like breast or fillet, choose another dish. The beef curry was milder with large chunks of meat and a rich, dark sauce that worked well with rice. The cucumber salad was fresh and fine. Mains are around €14 , sides run €5 to €7. The room is small, there are no reservations, and it suits walk-ins rather than big groups. If you are nearby and craving Thai curries, this is an easy pick.
