1. Gerhard Richter: 100 Works for Berlin
The "100 Works for Berlin" exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie features Gerhard Richter's significant long-term loan from the Gerhard Richter Art Foundation. The central focus is Richter's "Birkenau" series, born in 2014, comprising four large, abstract paintings. These pieces emerge from his exploration of the Holocaust and its visual representation. Derived from photographs of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Richter transposed these images onto canvases using charcoal and oil paint. Gradually, layers of abstraction were added, obscuring the original drawings until they vanished. More info.
