May 05-11: Day of Liberation, Exhibition, Bicycle Trade Fair, and more!
Things to do in Berlin - Week of May 05!
I received a notice that, due to pipe repairs in our building, we won't have water for two days. It made me wonder what's worse: going without water, which means no showers, no flushing toilets, and no washing dishes, or going without electricity, which means no charging devices and no lights. Personally, I think losing water is worse.
Here's a sneak peek of what’s in store for you this week:
🕊️ Day of Liberation
🧻 ToiletFotoPaperGrafiska - Exhibition
🍭 Pinky Promise: Candy Wonderland
🚲 VeloBerlin - Bicycle Trade Fair
🎧 And Let No One Be Forgotten - Group Audio Walk
👂 INTER[]LINKED - A Listening Experience

1. Day of Liberation
On May 8, Berlin will observe a special public holiday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe and the liberation from National Socialism. This day, known as the Day of Liberation, marks the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany on May 8, 1945, which concluded the war in Europe. Throughout the city, many events are planned to reflect on this milestone, including exhibitions, concerts, theater performances, and guided tours. Berlin.de has compiled a good list of events happening on this day. More info.

And let no one be forgotten! is an audio walk through Karlshorst inspired by the peculiar history of several houses here that have remained empty and largely untouched since 1994. Yet, this story is not only about the houses themselves but also about the different people who have come into contact with them, directly or indirectly, over the years. It is a story about what (and who) gets left behind after empires fall. More info.

6. INTER[]LINKED - A Collective Listening and Reflection Experience
INTER[]LINKED is an audio-visual performance that places the audience inside a circle of eight speakers, where sound made from breath, body movements, and subtle vocal elements forms the basis of the experience. Participants are given a reflective question to carry with them during the evening and can anonymously submit a personal question to others in the room. These questions and responses are displayed throughout the space as part of the installation. The event combines listening, observation, and anonymous exchange in a shared setting. More info.

Restaurant Suggestion:
Ausspanne - German Restaurant (⭐5/5)
This is a classic traditional German restaurant. The food is very good, with portions that are adequate. The atmosphere is clean and charming, taking you back in time. The service was great. One of those rare experiences where you're met with genuinely warm and friendly hospitality. The woman working there was especially kind and full of smiles. Prices are reasonable, and they accept cards.
